UW Madison has recently released an updated Burden of Binge Drinking in Wisconsin report, showing that binge drinking has an economic impact of $4 billion per year, totaling nearly $700 per resident.

“Over two-thirds of the economic cost of binge drinking is in lost productivity. These results show a staggering economic impact to the state. The negative health and social consequences of binge drinking are far-reaching and come at a great economic cost.”

Binge drinking is defined as 5 or more drinks per occasion for men, and 4 or more drinks per occasion for women.
